Post Grad
So. Last weekend was a hoot. Yes, FSU lost. Yes, I had to hear about it from every USF student/coworker I saw on Monday (I may have talked just a smidgen of trash the week before). But in the bigger scheme of things, those three and a half hours were just a small unbearably hot and suffocatingly humid fraction of our walk down memory lane.
What I liked best about the trip was that it was a perfect mixture of new and old.
FSU football game: old. Playing USF: new.
Watching the game with my brother: old. Watching the game with my brother’s girlfriend: new.
Tailgating: old. Tailgating at 10am: new. (Although, it finally wasn’t strange to bring coffee to a tailgate!)
Hanging out with Dr. Matthew Robinson: old. Hanging out with Matt and Tori formerly-Pope-now Runyon together: new.
Catching up with old friends while in Tally: old. Catching up with everyone at the same time while enjoying Ted’s giant onion rings: new.
Missing the Blancos: old. Sending the Blancos pictures of us missing them on Matt’s iphone: new.
I think you get the point. The paradox (or maybe just the cliche’?) is that everything changes, but everything stays the same, too. And I really like the way that city and its faces are changing and not changing while I’m away. I had a love/hate relationship with the place which turned into an intense hate/hate relationship by the time I graduated. But now that I’m out of college and can safely avoid Club Publix and Casa Cordoba, it’s not so terrible. Maybe even quaint. I can now say with all sincerity: You stay classy, Tallahassee.
P.S. If you happen to make a trip up to the sunshine state’s capital, you must check out The Well. As in, MUST. It will make all your blog-stalking dreams come true.
